Quintet Concert!

Quintet of the Americas will be performing at the Robert E. Lee High School, 1200 North Coalter Street,  in Staunton, VA on Saturday, Nov.4 at 7:30PM.

The Quintet will perform on their collection of South American and native American instruments featuring a rainstick from the Amazon, a conch shell, deer hoof rattles, A Sioux ceremonial drum, the Sioux courtship flute, pitos and whistles and cane flutes. They will also perform some of the masterpieces of the traditional woodwind quintet literature.

Since its beginning in 1976, QUINTET OF THE AMERICAS has been recognized as a leading ensemble in the interpretation of contemporary and folk-inspired wind quintet music of the Western Hemisphere. The New York Times said “the Quintet played splendidly, full of life, balancing voices with care, confident in its sense of togetherness,” and The Washington Post called their performances “musical dialogue at the highest level.” This concert will feature the Mozart Piano Quintet and a work by Douglaston composer JAMES COHN.

Recently profiled in a front-page New York Times article and praised for his “riveting” and “prodigiously accomplished and exciting” performances.BLAIR McMILLEN has established himself as one of today’s most adventurous and sought-after young pianists.

This concert is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and  the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Remembering 9/11



Remembering 9/11 WNYC News Special Tune in Monday at 8:30am on AM 820

The Quintet of the Americas is honored to be playing again this year for the 9/11 memorial at Gound Zero in New York. The Ceremony will begin at 8:46 when the first tower was hit.  WNYC AM 820 radio will have live, uninterrupted coverage of the fifth anniversary ceremony at the World Trade Center site. Spouses, partners and significant others will read the names of the victims, and four moments of silence will be observed. The Quintet will play as the names are read.

Quintet of the Americas In Concert As Part of Wall to Wall Stravinsky

Symphony Space on March 18
New York, NY - The Quintet of the Americas will be in concert as part of
Wall to Wall Stravinsky during the "Fourth Quarter - Stravinsky's Theatre"
2537 Broadway at 95th Street in Manhattan. The complete event will run from
11 AM to 11 PM.

This concert will feature the complete Quintet of the Americas performing as part of the ensemble for the composer's Symphonies of Wind Instruments. Members of the group will also perform at other parts of the marathon as part of ensembles for Four Songs with flute, harp, and guitar and Pribaoutki - Four songs for medium voice.
